WOW! Enrichment Programs at
Wonders Somerset Extended Day
It’s time for Spring registration! Listed below are the eleven enrichment classes being offered this spring. Each class will offer 8-12 week sessions from October to January. Any cancelled classes will be made up at the end of the semester. Save time with our online registration, which opens at at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 and continues through 5:00 PM Friday, October 1, 2010, and register for your spring enrichment programs.
Don’t forget, in addition to the chosen enrichment programs families will have the opportunity to use Somerset Extended Day’s “Drop-In Program” for the rest of the school year.

Annual registration fee: $35.00 (this covers administrative cost and enrolls the child in the Wonders drop-in program).

Course Descriptions:
Modern Dance
Do you love to jump for joy? Does music make you want to dance? Are you curious about learning how to "talk" with your body?" In this introduction to contemporary dance, students will be introduced to the basic elements of dance including rhythm and time, movement qualities, dynamics, space, and use of the body. Students will be able to explore their own movement within the age appropriate creative structure of the class while gaining confidence and body awareness. This is a great way to experience fun and self expression. Come experience the wonderful world of dance

Orchestra Club
“Fourth and fifth grade Orchestra students—are you ready for some fun?” Join Orchestra Club! Mr. Glabman will meet with you on Tuesday afternoons to explore some great rock, jazz and classical music. These engaging classes will introduce new songs and provide an opportunity for some pre-concert practice sessions. Orchestra Club is open only to students who are currently enrolled in the instrumental music program at Somerset and who are taking lessons on the following instruments with Mr. Glabman: violin, viola, cello. “Lets Rock!!”

Math Olympics
Students will explore complex mathematical problems in a cooperative, collaborative setting. Students learn to approach real life math problems (beyond simple computations) in a variety of ways. There are periodic competitions that will take place which are set by the Mathematical Olympiads Organizations.

Chess Club
“If you like finger knitting, you will love knitting with needles! You will learn the basic knit and pearl stitches and you can make a choice of fun projects such as belts, hats, scarves or pouches, to hold small treasures.

Found Object Art
“Transform the "ordinary" into the "extraordinary". Students will use a variety of discarded and recycled materials found at home, gathered in the community, and provided in class to make unique 2D and 3D art. Sculpture, printmaking, and collage are some of the media we will explore. This process-oriented class will encourage creativity and self-expression in a fun and nurturing environment

Digital Photography
Do you like to take pictures? Do you have a digital camera? If so join me in indoor and outdoor photo excursions!! Students will learn what digital photography is, How to use the camera/ how to download and print digital photos. The art of photography with an emphasis on portrait photography/ landscape and still life will be explored and each student will work throughout the course to organize and create a digital portfolio.

Young Rembrandts
Do you love to draw? Join Y oung Rembrandts, where we teach drawing, the fundamental skill of all visual arts. Each week, we will draw a new lesson focusing on a variety of artistic styles, terminology, art history, and coloring/shading techniques using dry media. This class is a fun way to improve your artistic skills. You will be amazed at what you will be able to create!

Club Fun
Intramural sports league. This fall season marks the sixth year of Club Fun Intramural Sports. This year we will offer Flag Football, Basketball, Soccer and Dodge Ball. The games will be held on Friday afternoons for children grades 3-5. The children will be transported to and from games on our Wonders bus. All games will be held at various Wonders Sites. Families are welcome to attend games, and may pick their children up at the site of an away game. Club Fun is about promoting sportsmanship, team work, skill development, social interaction with peer groups, and having fun.
